James W. Todt

James William Todt, 88, of Elkhart died Monday April 30 at home. He was born Nov. 29, 1923 in Elkhart to Edward and Edna (Zuber) Todt. On Oct. 5, 1947 in Elkhart he married Mary Frances Chapman who preceded him in death on Sept. 28, 2010.

Surviving are a son Robert E. (Susan) Todt and a daughter Deborah S. Rowland both of Elkhart, grandchildren: Robert (Wendi) Price, Jennifer (Ken) Davis, Michael Todt, Jennifer (Brian) Bulmer and Matthew Todt; Great-grandchildren Brittany, Tyler and Alyssa Price, and Gracie Bulmer. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Walter and Donald Todt and a sister Betty Todt.

Jim retired from Speed Grip Chuck after 32 years in the sales department. He was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church and served on the Church council, was a Sunday School Teacher and an Usher. Jim was a member of Elkhart Moose Lodge #599, was an avid golfer and enjoyed family gatherings. He visited nursing home residents who had no families and was caring and thoughtful to others. He enjoyed his buddies at Concord Mall where he walked daily. He was loved and touched by anyone who came in contact with him.

Visitation will be 5-8 pm Wednesday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home at Cobblestone Crossing in Elkhart. Visitation will also be an hour prior to the 11 am service on Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Elkhart. Pastors Tim Diemer, Gene Hollingsworth and Sister Nora Frost will officiate. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery.
