Doris E. Wenger

Doris E. Wenger, 92 of Elkhart, IN passed away on Saturday February 24, 2024 surrounded by her family at Brentwood Independent Living in Elkhart, IN. Doris was born on March 19, 1931 in Elkhart, IN to Herman and Martha McCreary. She married John D. Wenger on March 21, 1953 in Elkhart, IN.

Doris graduated Salutatorian from Concord High School class of 1949. She looked forward to going to “Girls Club” with her high school friends. She worked in the office at RE Jackson. Doris was a member of Starlight Chapter #181 OES where she was past Matron and was a member for over 50 years. She enjoyed reading, loved watching birds and being with her dogs.  Most importantly, Doris was a true farmers wife. She was a pioneer in her duties from gardening, cooking, canning, cleaning and was a mother figure not only to her children, but to the neighborhood children as well. Her favorite time was the time she spent with her family; she will be sadly missed.

Doris is survived by her children Ross Wenger of Elkhart, IN., Sue McCoy of Goshen, IN., Ray (Almira) Wenger of Goshen., IN; grandchildren Abigail Wenger, Kassandra Wenger, Holly Wenger, Craig Wenger, Lauren Welch and Daniel McCoy; great-grandchildren Teaghan Welch and Finley Welch; her niece Janice Fore. Doris is preceded in death by her parents Herman and Martha McCreary, husband John Wenger, sons Patrick Wenger and John “Dan” Wenger and her sister Martha Fore.

Visitation will be from 4-7pm on Thursday February 29,2024 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514. Funeral services will be at 11 am Friday March 1, 2024 at Elkhart Valley Church of the Brethren, 24955 CR 24, Elkhart, IN 46517 where visitation will be from 10- 11 am with Pastor Brad Hardesty officiating. Burial will follow in Olive East Cemetery, Elkhart.
