Jerry Al Bozzo, 74, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born September 17, 1948 in Elkhart to Albert and Virginia Bozzo. He married Marcella “Marcie” Iemma on June 26, 1971 at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Elkhart.
Jerry graduated from Elkhart High School. After graduation he honorably served his country in the United States Army. He owned and operated Bozzo’s Tavern on Jackson Street in Elkhart, where he never met a stranger. He worked in the food and beverage industry his whole life including Christiana Creek Country Club, Maplecrest Country Club, Notre Dame University and the Marriott, just to name a few. When jerry was not working he could be found cutting his grass, doing yard work or simply keeping his house clean. Jerry had a servants’ heart, from taking care of his sister Josephine when she was not well, to making meals for his neighbors, cooking and making homemade bread for his family. His greatest time was the time he spent with his family and friends. He was a member of a St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Elkhart.
Jerry is survived by his son Anthony Bozzo, brother-in-law Santo DeRose of Toronto, Canada, sister-in-law Anna Marie Bozzo of Rochester, IN; and sister-in-law Joanna Urbin of Michigan; his nieces and nephews Palmo (Marianna) DeRose, Theresa (Joe) Valente, twins James (Lena) DeRose, Kathy (Gary) Ingwersen, Mary Jean (Frank) Marrelli, Joseph (Anna) DeRose all from Toronto, Canada Albert James Bozzo of Rochester, IN Alan Urbin, Anthony Urbin, Angelina Urbin and Andrea Urbin from Michigan; several great-nieces and nephews and 7 great-great nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Virginia Bozzo, his wife Marcie Bozzo, and his sisters Elizabeth DeRose, Josephine “Jo” Bozzo and his brother Robert L. Bozzo.
Friends may visit with family 4-7 pm on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 56514 and Friday from 8:30 to 9:30 at the funeral home. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 am on Friday, March 31, 2023 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1331 North Main Street, Elkhart, IN 46514 . Fr.Levi Nikwocha will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Cemetery in Elkhart, IN with full military honors.
