Abraham L. Wollam, Jr., 93, of Middlebury, passed away Sunday May 31 at home.
He was born Apr. 25, 1922 in Elkhart to Abraham L. and Pearl (Graves) Wollam, Sr.
On March 27, 1943 in Las Vegas he married Ernestine L. Franklin who preceded him in death on June 24, 2007 after 64 years of marriage.
Surviving are a daughter Susanne (Ken) Kronewitter of Middlebury, 3 grandchildren: Bethanne (Eddie) Jackson of Granger, Major Timothy (Angie) Albrecht of Dayton, OH. and Julia (Mufi) Nurbhai of Benton Harbor, MI., 6 great-grandchildren and a brother Joseph Wollam of Monroe, LA. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters: Ruth Cook, Doris Reglein and Lola Gebhardt.
Abe attended Elkhart High School and served in the Army Air Force during WWII as a B-24 Nose gunner. He retired from JJ Babbett Co. after 47 years as a toolmaker. He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Goshen and Stone Lake Conservation Club. He also served as a Red Coat at Elkhart General Hospital. He enjoyed making woodworking crafts and fishing and had a wonderful sense of humor.
Visitation will be 4 to 7pm Tuesday June 2 and 1 hour prior to the 11am service Wednesday June 3 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart with Pastor Andrew Wollman officiating. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the US Army.
