Albert β€œAl” Barnes, 74, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday May 3, 2016 at I.U. Health, Goshen Hospital.
He was born Apr. 14, 1942 in Iowa City, Iowa to Elmer A. and Martha (Seering) Barnes. He married Carolyn L. Ganger on Sept. 3, 1966. She survives with 2 sons, Dean (Jenifer) Barnes of Bristol and Dwight (Heidi) Barnes of Elkhart; grandchildren, Dalton and Drake Barnes, Aaron (Amanda) Johnson and Robert and Rachel Johnson; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Easton Johnson, Dominic Ortiz and Aveary Green; 7 sisters, Louise (Harold) Carpenter of Iowa City, IA, Linda Williams and Alice (Dave) McAllister both of Tiffin, IA, Naomi Barnes of Ankeny, IA, Marilyn Thomas of Peoria, IL, Diane (Tom) Peak of Riverside, IA and Rebecca (Terry) Cassel of Swedeland, PA, and 2 brothers, Art (Julie) Barnes of Iowa City, IA and Roger (Tina) Barnes of Solon, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, John and 2 brother in laws.
Al was the owner of Barnes Backhoe Service since 1982 and attended Bristol United Methodist Church.
Visitation for Al will be Friday, May 6th from 4-8 pm at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home. Services will be Saturday, May 7th at 10 am at the Bristol United Methodist Church where visitation will be an hour prior. Rev. Fred Stayton will officiate. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery, Bristol.
Memorials may be given to the church or to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Online condolences may be sent to the funeral home website.
