Alfred J. Singleton, 93, of Elkhart, died at 7:32 pm Friday Sept. 17, 2010 at Hospice House of Elkhart.
He was born June 14, 1917 in Elkhart to Benjamin M. and Wilrose (Waldref) Singleton.
On August 31, 1940 he married Betty I. Masuth who preceded him in death on Nov. 10, 2006.
Al is survived by daughters: Janet K. (Larry) Fisher of Osceola, Joan L. Adams and Judith A. Herman both of Stevensville, MI, 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded death by a daughter Sandra J. Zimmerman, a grandson, Randy D. Fink and 6 brothers and a sister.
Al worked for H.A. Selmer Co. from 1934 to 1937, then C.G. Conn Co. from 1937 to 1945 then from 1945 until he retired in 1981 he worked for W.T. Armstrong Co. as Vice -President of Manufacturing and Production.
Al was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, past master of Kane Masonic Lodge #183 in 1966, member of the Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend and York Rite. He was president of Elkhart Bowling Association from 1963-1964. He was an avid bowler and baseball player. He played fast pitch softball as a pitcher and was pretty good at it.
Visitation will be 4 to 7:30 pm Monday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home at Cobblestone Crossing, Elkhart. A Masonic memorial service will be at 7:30 pm Monday at the funeral home. Burial at Rice Cemetery at a later date.
