Anthony S.”Tony” Furfaro, 73, of Elkhart, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on April 23, 2010 of cancer. He had been in ill health since Nov. 2009.

He was born Oct. 30, 1936 in Elkhart to Domenic and Mary T. (Campiti) Furfaro, and married Jane E. Alercia on March 11, 1989. He is survived by his wife, Jane E. Furfaro; 2 daughters Sheri (Eddie) Walters of Virginia, Jeanette (Mark) Lister of Terre Haute; 2 sons, Michael (Laura) of Mishawaka and Matthew (Natalie) of Elkhart; 3 step-daughters Mary Jane Khan of Florida, Barbara (David) Arnold of Elkhart and Ella Nixon of Granger; 12 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren; 1 brother Frank (Kay) of Mishawaka and 2 sisters Mary (Gordon) Vanatter and Angelina Cataldo, and several nieces and nephews. His parents and a brother, James Furfaro preceded in death.

He attended St. Vincent School and Elkhart Public Schools. Tony was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1962. He worked as a machine operator at Omega National Products for 24 years. He previously had worked at ByPass Paint Shop and American Millwork. Tony enjoyed watching the Cubs, working in his yard, playing cards and spending time with his family.

A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday at 2:30 pm at St. Vincent dePaul Church. Memorials may be given to the Center for Hospice of Elkhart Co. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the clubhouse at Oakridge Estates on C.R. #15, Elkhart immediately following services.
