Ardis I. Smith

Ardis Ilene passed away while under the compassionate care of the Elkhart Hospice House. She was born to Ralph and Ruby (Turnipseed) Rhoads on June 15, 1927.
On March 5, 1946, in Laketon, IN, she married Melvin H. Smith. He died Sept. 12, 2010. Also preceding her in death was her daughter, Marla Samuels, on Sept. 9, 2000; their son, Melvin H. Smith Jr, on May 23, 2010; her parents, 2 sisters, and 3 brothers.
She is survived by her brother, Raymond Rhoads, 6 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and her daughter-in-law, Patricia Smith.
As a young adult, Ardis worked for Spencer Cardinal, assembling file cabinets, and General Tire and Rubber Co., making clean gas masks for the government.
Her hobbies were crocheting, playing horseshoes, crossword puzzles and reading. One of Ardis’ favorite quotes- Life’s road is rough, but you can make it! Hold out your hand, and God will take it.
Services for Ardis will be at 11 am Monday, April 18th at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home. Family and friends may visit from 10 am to 11 am also on Monday. Pastor John Blodgett will officiate. Interment will follow at Little Pine Cemetery.
