Loving, impressionable, funny and big hearted are some of the many things people correlate with Arne Hernandez. He was an amazing father, brother, son and friend to many. On May 27th, Arne passed away after several weeks in the hospital. He spent his last days surrounded by his daughters.
Arne loved having fun, some would say he never grew out of his childlike humor, some would say he had a morbid sense of humor. Nevertheless, he was always having a good time no matter what card life dealt him. Even through some of the hardest times he found a way to put a smile on the faces of the ones who loved him, especially if he got a kick out of the way he did it. He sure was a jokester.
Arne was a simple and laid-back man and loved nothing more than sitting down with a friend and having a good conversation over a good meal. Going into it you knew you were in for several hours of laughing over stories about his interactions with his mother or listening to an hour-long monologue of something as simple as a grocery store trip. He was always meeting new people and making friends (and always asking what their story was).
Arne honorably served his country in the United States Army and formerly worked as a diesel mechanic for the Lake County Public Schools transportation department.
He was survived by his mother Carmelita "Jean" (aka Rozz), sister Paula, daughters, Brittany, Melissa, and Lynsie, grandson Steven, nephews Julian and Lucio and too many loved ones to name. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart IN 46514 is assisting the Hernandez family.
