Avis C. Williams of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, March 3 at Hubbard Hill.
She was born September 17, 1935 in Peabody, MA to John and Mildred (Brawn) Collins. Avis grew up in Brockton, MA and graduated from Bridgewater State College with a degree in secondary education. She married Lloyd Williams, Jr. on December 21, 1957. Avis taught for many years in Green Brook, NJ, obtaining her master’s in Learning Disabilities at Seton Hall University. After moving to Elkhart in 1979, she continued to teach at St. Thomas the Apostle School. She was a lifetime member of the NEA. After retiring from teaching, Avis worked as a manager in the local motel industry where she made many friends.
Avis is survived by her daughter, Dana (John) Ivan, of Manahawkin, NJ; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her sister, Joyce Jess of Lyndonville, NY and brother Bruce Collins of East Bridgewater, MA. Avis also leaves behind many faithful friends at Bible Study Fellowship.
She was preceded in death by her parents and will be buried at the family plot in Woolwich, ME.
