Barbara J. Macer

August 19, 1927 — September 22, 2016

On Thursday, September 22, 2016, Barbara J. Macer, 89, joined her beloved husband, William Macer in heaven.

Barbara was born on August 19, 1927, in Elkhart, Indiana to the late Orville and Alice Rowe. She was a much-loved teacher at Concord High School in Elkhart for several years before retiring from teaching in 1982. Mrs. Macer then went to work for Simpson United Methodist Church in Elkhart.

In retirement, she and Bill lived in Buffalo, Wyoming and Mission, Texas for several years, and she was very involved in each of these communities. After settling in Warner Robins, Georgia to be close to family, Mrs. Macer started Nifty Needlers to help others learn needlework and to work collectively on needlework projects. With a needle in her hand at all times, she was always busy making hats and sweaters for children in the hospital and for those in need. Barbara was also active with the Mission Historical Museum while in Texas. Trinity United Methodist was her church home.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Dan Flick; her sisters, Mary Nelson and Katherine Eley; and brother, Jack Rowe.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Linda Williamson, Warner Robins, Georgia; Karen Flick, Chino Valley, Arizona; Kirk Macer (Robin), St. Petersburg, Florida; grandchildren, Amy Averett (Chad), Brenda Volz (John), Cara Lenz (Jonathan), Jason Flick (Josie), Tammany Estrada (Javier), William Flick, Katrina Carlock (Daniel), Bryan Macer (Amy), and Kevin Macer; eighteen great-grandchildren; and siblings, Carolyn Ushela and Phil Rowe.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 2nd from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. The family will accept friends at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home in Elkhart, Indiana on Saturday, October 8th from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Graveside funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, Indiana where Mrs. Macer will be laid to rest.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Mrs. Macer to Trinity United Methodist Church, 129 S. Houston Rd., Warner Robins, GA 31088.
