Barbara J. Shaffer

Barbara J. Shaffer, 86, of Elkhart, went to be with her Savior on Wednesday Aug. 23, 2017 at Greenleaf Health Campus, Elkhart surrounded by her family.

She was born Aug. 3, 1931 in Ormas, IN to Clarence E and Dorothy M. (Juday) Knapp. On June 17, 1949 in Elkhart she married Cleo William Shaffer who preceded her in death on Oct. 14, 1982.

Surviving are 2 sons: Patrick (Dorothy) Shaffer and Timothy Shaffer both of Elkhart; 3 daughters, Pamela Carrico and Valerie (Kevin) Collins both of Elkhart and Peggy (Troy) Manges of Mesa, AZ; 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; a half-sister Donna Grines of Okeechobee, FL and a step-sister, Jean Fritz of Ft. Wayne. She was preceded in death by a sister, JoAnn Long, a brother, Clarence Knapp Jr., a son-in-law, Michael H. Carrico and a grandson, Michael T. Carrico.

Barbara retired from Miles Laboratories after 26 years in production. She attended Northside Baptist Church. She was a member of the Miles Quarter Century Club and enjoyed square dancing. She also was a member of the Women of the Moose where she enjoyed playing cards and bingo.

The family will receive friends from 10 am to noon on Tuesday, Aug. 29th at Northside Baptist Church where a service in her honor will begin at noon. Pastor Carl Henry will officiate. Burial will follow at Olive West Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Missions Fund at Northside Baptist Church. Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home is entrusted with her care.
