Bernice H. Dryer, 100, of Elkhart, passed away January 1, 2012 at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born October 19, 1911 to Andrew and Mary (Hussey) Zorniger in Elkhart. On March 20, 1936, she married Glenn W. Dryer. He died December 15, 2003.
She is survived by a son Norris of Knoxville, TN. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters Kathryn Aydelotte Bolin and Ruth Zorniger.
Mrs. Dryer attended Elkhart High School and Wittenberg University. She was a homemaker, accountant and music teacher. She was a charter member of the Elkhart County Symphony Orchestra, where she was a violinist from 1948-1986. She was a charter and lifelong member of Sigma Alpha Nu sorority since its founding in 1929. She was a fan of the Peanuts comic strip, a crossword puzzle enthusiast and an avid flower gardener. She shared with the great Russian composer, Tchaikovsky, a love for Lillies of the Valley. She was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home at Cobblestone Crossing, Elkhart is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Dryer’s name may be given to the Elkhart County Symphony Orchestra or the Elkhart County Humane Society.
