Bettie Dean Johnson, 64 of South Bend, IN passed away July 15, 2014 at 4:15 p.m. at Kindred Healthcare in Elkhart. She was born on September 6, 1949 in Bell City, Missouri to Cleophus and Alma Johnson Sr.

Survivors include 2 sons, Israel (Heidi) Johnson and Jermaine Bradley both of South Bend, a daughter, Felicia Bradley of Mishawaka, 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 1 brother, Cleophus Johnson Jr., 6 sisters, Areatha Taylor, Alma Pulliam, Esther (Oliver) Pettis, JoAnn (Warren) Black all of Elkhart, Cleo Johnson of Atlanta, Georgia, and Rosie Johnson of Sikeston, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, William Henry Johnson and Calvin Earl Johnson and a sister, Ceola Tate.

Friends may call for 2 hours prior to the 1 pm service on Monday, July 21st at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart. Rev. Frank Andrews will officiate. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery.

Bettie (Bet) graduated from Bell City High School. She was a God fearing woman. She was baptized twice and accepted Christ in her life at a very young age. She loved all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. She was like a second mom to many of her nieces and nephews. Bettie enjoyed cooking, spending time with her grandchildren, and baking. She was known for her caramel cakes, sweet potato pies, and fried chicken. She was a very easy going woman and always lent a listening ear for anyone who needed someone to confide in.
