Betty L. Hickman, 89 of Elkhart, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Hospice House, Elkhart.
She was born in Chesterton, IN to Harry A. and Myrtle (Charlson) Smith. She married LaMar McCrory in 1947 and later married Robert Edwin Hickman in 1992. Robert survives along with four sons; Kenric A. (Betty) McCrory, and Kevin A. (Annie) McCrory both of Fort Wayne, IN; Gordon D. (Leslee) McCrory, and Bruce C. (Jane) McCrory, both of Granger; 8 Grandchildren; 12 great-Grandchildren; 2 Step-Daughters: Jackie Ketzenberger and Jessica Johnson; 2 Step-Sons: David Smith and Race Hickman; 13 step-Grandchildren; 25 Step-Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Donald L. and Edwin H. Smith, and a step-son, Scott.
She graduated from Elkhart High School and from Vogue Beauty College in Mishawaka. Betty was owner and operator of Betty Mac’s Beauty Shop, where she was a hairdresser for over 20 years. She retired from Bayer (Miles Laboratory) following 19 years of service. She was also a member of Calvary Baptist church, Woodcarvers Association, Women of the Moose, and AARP.
Visitation for Betty will be from 4-7 P.M. on Tuesday January 24, 2017 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home. A funeral service in her honor will be at 11 A.M. on Wednesday January 25, 2017 at Granger Missionary Church. Pastor Tim Wesco will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Elkhart County Humane Society or to Elkhart Hospice House.
