Bruce Lloyd Martin 91, of Goshen, died December, 4, 2013 in Goshen, Indiana. He was born June 7, 1922 the son of Beno & Charity (Snook) Martin, Elkhart, Indiana.
He graduated from Elkhart High School in 1940 and earned his Bachelor’s degree in History Education from Goshen College in 1944. He taught History, Government, Sociology, Economics and English to junior high and high school students in Remington (1945-1946), Spencerville (1946-1950), Jimtown (1956-1978) and Bakersfield, Missouri (1978-1979).
On June 8, 1947 he married Jeannette Rowell of Goshen who preceded him in death on December 22, 1988. On August 12, 1989 he married Leora (Rowe) Bowers.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church from 1955 until its merger with three other churches in 1993 to form Faith United Methodist Church where he continued to attend. Besides caring for his family and friends, he loved history, travel, reading, talking with former students, and most of all Jesus Christ.
He is survived by wife, Leora, daughter Faith (Goshen), son Blair and wife Mary (Sterling, KS), grandson Tim (Garden Valley, TX), step-son Bruce Bowers and wife Diane (Phoenix, AZ), step-daughter Marilou (Bowers) Snell and husband Dick (Elkhart), and his neighbors Tim and Kristen Neufeld and son Kurt of Goshen who were like family to him. He has four step-grandchildren, six step-great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He was predeceased by his parents and step-son George (Skip) Bowers of Elkhart.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 5th from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Stemm Lawson Peterson Funeral Home and an hour prior to the funeral service on Friday, December 6th, at 10:30am at Faith United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Rice Cemetery.
