Carl W. Johnson

Carl W. Johnson, 91, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday Dec. 23, 2017 at Elkhart Hospice House.

He was born June 29, 1926 in Elkhart to August W. and Gertrude S. (Nelson) Johnson. On May 25, 1967 in Elkhart he married Virginia B. Thulis who preceded him in death on March 3, 2012 along with a brother Edwin Johnson and a sister Maria Danielson. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Elkhart High School in 1945 and served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Conrail as an Locomotive Engineer after 43 years. He was a member of Tyrian Lodge #12 of Goshen and Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend.

Visitation for Carl will be from 11 am to 1 pm Friday, Dec. 29th at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, where a masonic memorial service will be at 12:30 pm followed by a funeral service at 1 pm. Tony Harrington will officiate. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery, where military graveside services will be rendered by the D.A.V. #19 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
