Carol Juanita Barton, 96 of Elkhart, IN. passed away May 11, 2014 at Hubbard Hill
Estates. She was born on December 25, 1917 in Lansing, Michigan to Vernon J. and Gertrude A. (Roosa) Monasmith. She married Andy Thomas Barton on June 20, 1937
in Middlebury, IN . He preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 1980.
Survivors include two sons, Charles C. (Ann) Barton of Englewood, CO., Stephen P. (Jean)
Barton of Elkhart, a daughter, Glenda M. (Daryl) Hopkins of Garden City, KS., 5 granddaughters, 3 Step- granddaughters, 3 step-grandsons, and 16 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy, a daughter, Brenda Tanner, 2 brothers, John and Kedric Monasmith, a sister, Charlene Miller and a step granddaughter, Melanie Cabiness.
Friends may call from 12 noon to 2 pm Wednesday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home where a procession will leave for Adamsville Cemetery. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. John Tomlonson officiating.
As a teenager, Carol went to Middlebury to live with her foster parents, Frank and Emma Jenkins. She graduated from Middlebury High School in 1936. She was a homemaker and mother and enjoyed sewing, needlepoint and painting, especially figurines. She always had flower gardens and had an affinity for growing African violets. She had been a member of the Church of the Brethren for many years. Memorial contributions may be given to the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
