Cathy "Joey" Jo Elliott

Cathy Jo “Joey” Elliott, 65 of Elkhart, passed away at 11:58 pm Wednesday Jan. 25th at her home.

She was born on October 11, 1951 in Elkhart to Karl and Doris (Miller) Smole. She married Gary W. Elliott on Sept. 2, 1972 in Elkhart. She is survived by a daughter, Sarah Elliott of Ft. Wayne and a son, William (Gordi) Elliott of Brooklyn, NY; a grandson, Charlie Elliott, a brother, Mitch (Betsy) Smole of Elkhart and 2 nephews and a niece, Bryan, Andrew and Kristen Smole. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary on March 9, 2005, her parents and a sister, Christine Smole.

Joey graduated from Elkhart High School in 1969 and earned an Associate’s degree from Indiana University. She retired as a dental hygienist from the Norman Bryan Dental Office. She volunteered mentoring grade school children, providing dental care for the Heart City Health Center and the Wellfield Botanic Gardens. She also was a volunteer and held various positions for the Huntington’s Disease Society of America. Joey was very active with the women of the graduating class of 1969.

Family and friends may gather from 2-6 pm Sunday, Jan. 29th at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in her honor at 11 am Monday, Jan. 30th at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church where visitation will be an hour prior in the Vincent Hall. Inurnment will be in St. Vincent’s Cemetery at a later date.
