Charles Wayne Barrett, 78, of Elkhart, formerly of Bristol, passed away Friday, September 1st in his home.
He was born on March 6, 1939 in Readyville, TN to Charles Paul and Mary Katherine (Fann) Barrett. Surviving are two daughters, Tonya Lynn (Rodney) Chris of Elkhart, Angela Dawn (Brian) Hershberger of Union, MI, and a son Todd W. (Karen) Barrett of Elkhart; 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 3 sisters, Lucille (Jim) Russell of South Bend, Joyce (Bill) Mitchell of Houston, TX and Marie (Dave) Checkley of Michigan. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Barrett.
Charles graduated from Bristol High School, Class of 1957 and then proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Bristol American Legion, Post #143 and the DAV #19 Elkhart. He loved playing golf and fishing. He retired after a long sales career.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 pm Tuesday, Sept. 5th at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home where a service will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, Sept. 6th. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery, Bristol where military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Army and DAV #19, Elkhart.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to AseraCare Hospice, Elkhart.
