Charles R. “Rednek” Hawkins, 75, of Edwardsburg, MI passed away on Friday, May 4, 2018 at home. He was born on August 1, 1942 in Kentucky to Charles B. and Margaret (Hatton) Hawkins. He married Patricia Wilder on December 19, 1961 in Elkhart, IN. She preceded him in death on October 5, 2014.
He is survived by his son, Charles A. (Vicky) Hawkins, of Elkhart, IN; two daughters: Kathy (Scott) Hoeppner of Sarasota, FL and Kim (Randy) Berkel of Elkhart, IN; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his beloved companion, Shirley Reafsnyder.
He was preceded in death by a grand daughter, Danielle Berkel, two sisters and a brother.
Charles served his country honorably in the United States Navy and was a retired Elkhart City firefighter. He was a devout Christian. Previously, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Tennessee and a local classic car group.
Friends may visit with the family from 10AM-2PM on Thursday May 10 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, where there will be a service at 2 PM. Reverend Ted Stanley will officiate. Burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Riley’s Hospital for Children.
