Charles L. Murray, 101 of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016 at the Elkhart Hospice House.
He was born Jan. 31, 1915 in Hastings, CO to Ralph and Ella Murray. He married Margaret I. Kaczur on Aug. 23, 1945 in Apple Creek, OH. Surviving are a son, Richard J. Murray of Charlotte, NC, Daughter-in-law, Carole Murray of Haslett, MI, Son-in-law, Mark Benson of Pocatello, ID, 6 grandchildren, Julie, Rachael, Scott, Nicholas, Benjamin and Katie and 4 great-grandchildren, John, Alexander, Maxine, and Rhys. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret on Aug. 1, 2011 and a daughter, DeVona Benson.
Charles earned an electrical engineering degree from Purdue University and a law degree from Indiana University. He was the Director of Personnel at C.T.S. in Elkhart for 27 years.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed playing golf well into his 80’s. Charlie at 100 years old was the Grand Marshal of Elkhart’s 2015 Labor Day Parade, fulfilling his dream of riding in an Elkhart Police squad car.
Visitation for Charlie will be from 2-4 pm Sunday, Aug. 7th at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, where services will be at 2 pm Monday, Aug. 8th. Entombment will follow at Chapel of Peace Mausoleum, Rice Cemetery.
