Charles M. Stutsman

Charles Michael Stutsman, 67, of Elkhart, died at 11:00 p.m. Thursday,
Feb 6, 2014 at Mayo Clinic Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Charlie was born December 18, 1946 in Elkhart, Indiana. He was the son of Russell and Irma Stutsman and the brother of Karen Stutsman Duck Adamsville, MI. He was married to Tandy Strawser on June14,1969.

He is survived by his wife, Tandy; four sons; Chris (Amy) of Houston, TX, Cameron (Margaret) of Fort Wayne, IN, Chad (Katie) of Chicago, IL, Tyson (Jenna) of Willmington, NC and three grandsons; Tristan, Kayden and Charlie.

Charles was a graduate of White Pigeon High School (1965). He attended Western Michigan University earning a BA in 1969 and a Master of Arts degree in 1976. He served with the US Army as an Intelligence Officer from 1969 to 1972 and was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone. He was employed at Nibco for more than 39 years and retired in December, 2013 as their Standards and Codes Engineer. Additionally, from 1982 to 1988 Charlie was the Vice President of Marketing with the Visiting Nurses Association, Atlanta, GA.

Charlie was a strong believer in community service. For more than 20 years he was a scout leader and mentor for the the Boy Scouts of America in Marietta, GA and Elkhart, IN. As a member of the Elkhart Morning Rotary Club, Charlie developed youth education opportunities and community cleanup projects.

Charlie also filled each day with new adventures and experiences. He was an avid traveler, recently visiting Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, and Alaska. He enjoyed ballroom dancing and was a board member of Guys and Dolls Ballroom Dancing Club. Charlie also enjoyed canoeing the rivers and biking the roads of Michiana.

Visitation will be 4 to 8pm Friday Feb. 14 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home 1531 Cobblestone Blvd. Elkhart where services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, Feb. 15.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be given to the American Cancer Society and/or the Boy Scouts of America.
