Christian Steven Schmidt

Christian Steven Schmidt, age 30, of Osceola passed away February 2, 2021 due to a long-standing health issue.

Christian was born October 25, 1990 to Steven Schmidt and Cherrell Amaker.  At the age of 2 he became part of a family with Steven, Tory (Tennyson) Schmidt, and Broderick Taylor Schmidt. As he grew, he was joined by brothers Gunnar and Paxton.

Christian was a 2008 graduate of Penn High School and continued in the Adult Program after graduation. Also, he was the self-elected president of the Barney the Dinosaur Fan Club.

Christian was a very unique and inspiring little man.  Even with all the difficulties he was given he could always smile his big and heartfelt smile. It was contagious and always made those nearby wonder what was going on in his mind.

As he grew, he was helped by so many people in so many aspects of his life.  There are not enough words to thank each and every person involved that helped him grow up. From First Steps, Reigns of Life, constant PT, OT, and Speech therapists, Sister Gretchen and Chiara Home, Logan, Dungarvin, the Penn Harris Madison School Corporation as a whole, and every Aide that had the right courage, patience and devotion, and most recently Benchmark Services. Everyone made his life easier and balanced.  It takes a village.

Christian was strong!  Now he can relax. We can now imagine him running around and shouting out all that has gone through his mind for over 30 years. Plus, we can see him doing things that he never knew he wished he could do.

Christian is survived by his Steven, Tory, Brothers Broderick (Kyleigh), Gunnar, and Paxton. Grandparents Norva and Brian Shidler and Bob and Faith Tennyson. Many aunts and uncles.  Nieces Whestyn and Sawyer and Nephew Thatcher. He was preceded in death by Grandma and Grandpa Schmidt, Uncle Marty Schmidt, and nephews Jaxton and Greyson.

Friends may visit with family from 1-3pm on Sunday, February 7,2021 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 where funeral services will be held at 3pm on Sunday. Burial will be private at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger on Monday.
