Clifford A. Detwiler, 94 of Middlebury, formerly of Bristol, died March 24, 2012 at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Elkhart.
He was born Feb. 10, 1918 in Elkhart County to Moody W. and Ellen (Hoover) Detwiler and married Kathryn A. Gibson on June 15, 1940 in South Bend. She died June 7, 2008. Cliff is survived by 23 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Manford and Carlisle Detwiler and 5 sisters, Marie Husband, Bernice Hoffer, Dorothy Miller, Leota Shirk and Kathryn Longbrake.
Cliff was a self-employed carpenter and enjoyed wintering in Avon Park, Florida. He raised horses and rode in the Bristol Marshall’s Posse for 14 years.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7 pm at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home at Cobblestone Crossing, Elkhart where services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday. Rev. Karen Strietelmeier will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery Bristol.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are preferred to the Bristol Police Dept./ Bristol Marshall’s Posse.
