David S Collins

David S. Collins, 76, of Elkhart passed away Saturday evening at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Elkhart.

He was born Nov. 25, 1940 in New Milford, CT to William Sherman and Avis L. (Whipple) Collins. He married Judy S. Somers on May 12, 1978. She survives with one daughter, Kelly (Rod) Yoder of Bristol; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a brother, Michael Collins of New Milford, CT. His faithful companion Mugsy met him at the Rainbow Bridge on Dec. 18th. He was preceded in death by his parents.

David graduated from New Milford High School and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Trine University. He retired as an accountant for Bayer Corporation after 35 years of service. He was a sports enthusiast, especially basketball. He was an avid Notre Dame basketball fan and held season basketball tickets for many years. He loved playing golf and bowling. David proudly served in the U.S. Navy.

A celebration of life will be held from 4 to 7pm Monday, Dec. 26th at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home.
