David L. Gawthrop

David Lee Gawthrop, 63, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at home on Saturday May 30th.
Dave was born June 3, 1951 in Wolf Lake, IN to James D. and Sally M. (Barr) Gawthrop. On Aug. 28, 1971 in Wawaka, IN he married Betty J. Kinnison who survives along with 4 sons: Ryan (Natasha Cain) of Elkhart, Rod of Bristol, Richard (Kristi Price) of Elkhart and Reid (Jennea Schirr) of Bristol, 10 grandchildren, a sister Mary (Mike) Bolin of Wolcottville, IN and his father James of Kimmell, IN. Dave was preceded in death by his mother Sally on Apr. 30, 2014 and a brother Thomas.

Dave graduated West Noble High School in 1969 and from Ball State in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He started his career with McGladrey, Hanson & Dunn as a CPA, followed by Federal Press, Patrick Industries, Stiles Inc. and ending at Dynamax Corp. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Kiwanis Breakfast Club and numerous accounting organizations.
Dave enjoyed Notre Dame athletics and the NY Yankees. He loved coaching, playing and watching all sports, gardening and taking walks.

Visitation will be 3 to 7 pm Monday June 1, and 2 hours prior to the Noon funeral service on Tuesday June 2 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart, with Pastor Dan Carlson of Wolf Lake Baptist Church officiating.
