David B. McNitt, 88, of Elkhart, died Monday Nov. 14, 2011 at Greenleaf Health Campus, Elkhart.
He was born Nov. 1, 1923 in Toledo, Ohio to David and Helen (Martin) McNitt and upon returning from his service in World War II married Margaret Hetman in Rossford, OH. Surviving are his wife, Margaret McNitt of Elkhart, a son, David R. McNitt of Elkhart, daughters, Marcia (Sheppard) McNitt-Sternthal of Southfield, MI and Judy (Bill) Mell-Klempay of Elkhart, 2 grandsons, Christopher and Matthew Mell of Niles, MI, a brother, Charles R. McNitt of Cartersville, GA and many nieces and nephews.
David was an Accountant for many years and was President of Supertech, Inc. retiring in 2009. He was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church, Tyrian Lodge #718, Financial Executive Institute, American Contract Bridge League, where he was a lifetime Master at Bridge. He was also a member of the N.A.A. where he was past president and former national vice-president, member of Loyal Order of Moose, Elkhart. He was former chairman of the United Way Budget and Allocations Committee, a licensed pilot and a world traveler having visited many countries.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army-Air Corps 509th Composite Group in World War II stationed on the Island of Tinian. The group was responsible for the Enola Gay and the dropping of the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima.
There will be no visitation or services. Memorials may be given to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Elkhart.
