Our precious husband, father and grandfather, David O. Wenger, entered his eternal rest Sunday, June 3, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at Hospice House.
Dave was born on March 3, 1933 in Wakarusa, the eighth of twelve children to Golda (Weldy) and Charles O. Wenger. At a party in Goshen he met Marlene (Griffith) Wenger. They wed on October 26, 1958, 60 years this coming October.
Three children survive: Lisa Henderson, Mishawaka; Beth (Michael) Barney, Bristol; and Rodney Wenger, Elkhart. Dave had one grandchild, Colin Henderson (fiancé Taylor Calderone), Mishawaka.
Dave graduated from Wakarusa High School in 1951. He worked at CTS Corp for 25 years and at Darr & Associates for 30 years. Dave served as a governor in the IHA and director and president of IHASA. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, Notre Dame and the Cubs. Dave was a member of Hillcrest United Methodist Church.
Dave is survived by his siblings Helen Alexander, CA; Vada Blosser, Wakarusa; Phyllis (Larry) Stauffer, Goshen; and Larry (Terri), AZ; sisters in law Gloria Griffith; Patricia, Wilma, and Carolyn Wenger and brother in law John Nunemaker. Deceased siblings are Fay Yoder, Myrtle Kehr, Leota Yoder, Doris Nunemaker, Charles, Kenneth and Lester Wenger.
Dad was a man of integrity and class. He was not only admired by his family and friends but also people he met along his life’s journey. His helping spirit, generosity and desire to provide well for his family will be remembered forever.
Friends may call from 3-7 pm Wednesday, June 6th at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Thursday, June 7th at Hillcrest United Methodist Church. Rev. Mike Butler will officiate. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery.
