David J. Witt, 58, of Elkhart, died Tuesday, August 24, 2010. He was born in Elkhart to Marvin J. and Esther (Adams) Witt on April 24, 1952. He married Pat A. Vaughn on May 5, 1979 in Goshen.
She survives along with his mother Esther Streur of Elkhart; a son Jason P. (Tina) Witt of Elkhart; 3 daughters Kelly J. Beatty of Merritt Island, FL, Gina D. (Jim) Wood of Osceola and Sally A. Witt of Elkhart; 8 grandchildren Tanner, Tyler, Jade, Julia, Heaven, Allyssa, Nathan and Cameron; 3 sisters Marcia Schooley of Elkhart, Donna Pugliese of Edwardsburg, and Mary (Terry) Burleson of Harrison, Arkansas; and a brother Ron Gillison of Elkhart. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Rachel.
Dave was a former maintenance manager and handyman at York Woods Center. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and was always ready to help somebody in need. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, Lifeline, and did mission work in Haiti, Mexico and Kentucky. He served in the Indiana National Guard and was a graduate of Elkhart High School’s Class of 1970.
Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home at Cobblestone Crossing where a funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:30 am. Rev. Larry W. Kurtz will officiate. Burial at Zion Cemetery will be at a later date.
