Dean M. Pickrell, 84 of Bristol, Indiana died August 2, 2009 at 10:30 P.M. at home. He was born on December 14, 1924 in Bristol to Harry O. and Eunice (Leatherman) Pickrell. He married Hazel Kline on September 18, 1943 in Bristol. She preceded him in death on December 1, 1992. He then married Phyllis Hostetter in 1994. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, Donald (Elaine) Pickrell of Union, Michigan, two daughters; Sharon (Rod) Juday of White Pigeon, Michigan and Janette Pickrell of Middlebury, 6 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren. A brother, Kenneth preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 4-8 P.M. Wednesday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Boulevard, Elkhart and also 1 hour prior to the funeral service which will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Bristol United Methodist Church, 201 South Division Street, Bristol. Reverend Fred Stayton of Bristol United Methodist Church and Reverend Ron Spyker of Jefferson Brethren Church, Goshen will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery, Bristol. The George Washington Masonic Lodge # 325 will perform a Masonic memorial service at 7:30 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Pickrell retired in 1990 as sales manager for Pickrells Greenhouse in Osceola. With his wife Hazel, he owned and operated the Treasure Chest in Bristol. He was a member of the church, the Goldwing Riders Association Chapter H, George Washington Masonic Lodge in Bristol where he received the 50 year Award of Gold, the Bristol Fire Department and the breakfast table at Evans Café in Bristol. He was a 1943 graduate of Bristol High School. Memorial contributions may be given to the church, Bristol Fire Department or the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.
