Dennis E. Wirt

Dennis E. Wirt, 76 of Elkhart, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at the Elkhart Hospice House.

He was born on Sept. 15, 1941 in Mishawaka to Fred and Carolyn (Gill) Wirt. He married Rita F. Cook on July 24, 1960. She preceded him in death on March 7, 2014. Surviving are a daughter, Rhonda (Jeff) Schaar of Elkhart and a son, Rob (Robin) Wirt of Muncie; 5 grandchildren, Austin and Adam Waters, Alec Schaar and Daniel and Erin Wirt and a brother Gregg (Pamela) Wirt of Paso Robles, CA. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Douglas Wirt.

Dennis graduated from Jimtown High School and worked as a pipe fitter retiring in 2003. He was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church and the Local #166 Union since 1967. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed bowling in various leagues, mushroom hunting and spending time with his grandkids. He was a lifelong fan of I.U. Basketball, the Chicago Bears and Chicago White Sox.

Friends may visit with the family from 3-7 pm Monday, July 2nd at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home. The family will hold a committal service on Tuesday, July 3rd at 11 am at the Mausoleum at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
