Donald R. Carpenter

Donald R. Carpenter, 85 of Elkhart, passed away, Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015 in his home.

He was born January 1, 1930 in Niles, Michigan to Lloyd and Evelyn (Price) Carpenter. He married Marjorie F. Reish on Oct. 1, 1950 in Elkhart. She preceded him in death on Oct. 30, 1993.

Surviving are a daughter, Mindy (Kerry) Glassman of Elkhart and a son, Greg (Sally) Carpenter of Goshen; 3 Grandsons, Erik Carpenter, Chris Glassman and Ryan Glassman; 4 Great-Grandchildren: Ellie Carpenter, Brady, Reed and Miles Glassman: 3 sisters, Norma Fruehauf of Kalamazoo, MI, Janet (Larry) Barr of Niles, MI and Lynette (John) Miller of South Bend and a brother, Denny (Janice) Carpenter of Mishawaka. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carmen Mitchell.

Don retired as a machinist from Bendix Corp. in South Bend after many years and was a lifelong, die-hard Cub’s Fan.

Visitation for Don will be from 11 am to 1 pm Friday, Aug. 21st at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home where funeral services will begin at 1 pm. Pastor Cary Perdue will officiate. Interment will follow at Rice Cemetery.
