Donald E. "Nick" Carter, III

Donald “Nick” Carter III, 74, of Elkhart, IN passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, December 6, 2022. Nick was born on December 21, 1947 in Elkhart to Donald, Jr and Judy Carter. He married the love of his life, Janet Boyd on February 14, 1986 in Elkhart. She preceded him in death on September 27, 2019.

Nick retired as a railroad conductor for Norfolk and Southern formerly Conrail, where he worked from 1967- 2008. He was a volunteer Concord Firefighter from 2009 until his passing. He also worked as a security guard at Concord Mall. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

Nick is survived by his son Nicholas C. Carter, his daughter Cerrie Carter Vandermark, his Concord Firefighter Department family, his extended family that is like his brother, Russ Cook and extended daughter Angela Felder and extended grandson, Justin Felder and his best friend, Doug Shidler whom was by his side on his journey through life and laughing all the way.  Nick was preceded in death by his parents Donald, Jr. and Judy Carter, his wife Janet, his sister Judy Louise Carter, Aunt Barbara and Uncle Bud.

A celebration of life for Nick will be held from 12- 2 pm on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Concord Fire Department, 23625 CR 18, Elkhart, IN 46516 Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514.
