Donald "Dan" Culveyhouse

November 1, 1931 — March 22, 2025

Elkhart, IN

Donald “Dan” Culveyhouse, 93 of Elkhart, IN passed away at home on Saturday March 22, 2025, with his family by his side. He was born on November 1, 1931 in Chicago, IL., to Garland and Margaret Culveyhouse. On Christmas Eve in 1959, he married Nylene Kindle, and they enjoyed many happy years until her passing in 2015.

Dan is survived by 4 children, Richard (Sharon Ladner) Walls of Gulfport, MS., Daniel Culveyhouse, Laura Culveyhouse, and David Culveyhouse all of Elkhart, IN., and grandchildren, Andrew Culveyhouse, Justin (Cindy) Walls, Robert Walls, and numerous great-grandchildren and his brother James Culveyhouse of Gulfport, MS.

Donald will forever be known as one of the best draftsmen in the area and the RV Industry. He made significant contributions, including designing the first “slide out” for Skyline Corporation. He was the President and Co-Founder of Delta Homes, before starting his own business, Graphic Art Design. Donald continued to draft and design for many RV companies and eventually moved to patent drawings. Don’s meticulous attention to detail, the knowledge and the ability to translate complex ideas, as well as creating accurate technical drawings, allowed him to continue to draw, by hand, until he was almost 92. He also holds a patent himself with the USPTO.

Don also designed and helped build their Coverdale Lake house, better known as Culvey’s Cove. He provided a place where his kids and friends were able to enjoy swimming, fishing, hunting, and riding the trails. He even started the Annual 4th of July fireworks and held many memorable parties.

Donald was an avid fisherman, hunter and NHRA Drag racing fan especially John Force. He attended thousands of gun shows and made several life long friends through his love for guns and knives.

In keeping with Donald’s wishes there will be a celebration of life at a later date. A special thank you goes out to David Culveyhouse, for sacrificing so much the past year, so that Dad’s final wishes of staying at home could be granted. In lieu of flowers please make any donations to David for his servant’s heart in taking great care of his dad. Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 is assisting Donald’s family. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.stemmlawsonpeterson.com
