Donald L. Monk

Donald L. Monk, 79 of Bristol, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the Elkhart Hospice House.

He was born May 19, 1935 in Peru, IN to Howard and Nina (Nicely) Monk. He married Lucille J. Reese on March 13, 1955 in Elkhart. She died Nov. 22, 2009. Surviving are 3 daughters, Deb (Randy) Kavas of Cincinnati, OH, Judy (Jim) Phelps of Mishawaka and Linda Brindle of Jimtown; 3 grandsons, 5 great-grandchildren, 1 step granddaughter and 2 step great-grandchildren, and a sister, Janet Truex of Elkhart. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Ray and Glenn Monk and his parents.

Don retired as a tool and die maker engineer for NIBCO and Tecumseh Products. He was co-owner of Shakey’s Pizza in South Bend and owned the Nut Trailer, traveling between Elkhart and Florida attending festivals. He was a member of the Elkhart Evening Optimist Club, Elkhart Jaycees, Loyal Order of Moose and T.A.S.K. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards and meeting with his longtime friends.

Visitation for Don will be Thursday, May 29th from 4-7 pm at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home and an hour prior to the service on Friday, May 30th at 1 pm. Pastor Tim Garner will officiate. Entombment will be at Rice Cemetery at a later date.
