Donald Lee Smith, Sr.

Donald Lee Smith, Sr. age 79, of Elkhart, IN passed away at Elkhart General Hospital. Don was born on May 29, 1943 in Elkhart to Henry and Fleety Golden Smith. He married the love of his life, Carol I. Garn, on December 28, 1961.

Don honorably served his county in the United States Army.  worked at NIBCO for over 35 years, after retirement he worked for Syndicate and Dexter Axel. Don enjoyed bowling, playing horse shoes, watching the Chicago Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds. He most recently took an over the road trip with his son to see a Cincinnati Reds game, Chicago Cubs game, Arlington National Cemetery and spending a little time going to the ocean. He truly loved to spend time with his family.

Don is survived by his son, Donald L. Smith, Jr., of Elkhart; grandchildren Victoria Smith of Ft. Wayne and Hayden Smith of Mishawaka. Don was preceded in death by his wife Carol Smith on October 26, 2005 and his siblings, Ralph (Olie) Smith, James (Darlene) Smith, Genevieve (Enos) Wierick, Neva (Dale) Howard, June (Ned) Moore, Henry (Peg) Smith and Howard (Barbara) Smith.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 5 pm on Thursday September 1, 2022 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola.
