Doris E. Hickman

August 30, 1917 — November 17, 2012

Doris Ellen Hickman went to be with her Lord and Savior November 17, 2012 at 7:20 pm at East Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkhart. She was the daughter of James Harry and Ada Belle (Baumgartner) Biddle. She was born in Vistula, Indiana August 30, 1917 and married Earl William Hickman on September 12, 1942.

She will be lovingly remembered by sons, Michael E. (Linda S.) Hickman, Elkhart; Daryl D. (Vicki) Hickman, Williamsport; and Kenneth J. (Schelly) Hickman, Elkhart; 8 grandchildren, Caleb M. (Beth), William A., Janee L., Nicholas D. (Kelly), Matthew E., and Luke G. Hickman, Bradley T. (Brandi) Machin, and Brian A. (Alison) Guy; 11 great-grandchildren, Anna, Christa, Kanin, Connor, Gibson, Shyann, Devon, Logan, Reagan, Donovan and Mariska.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl (10/19/1996), an infant daughter Linda Earline (5/27/1945) and 2 sisters, Viola Gressley and Etta Mae LaBelle.

Doris grew up in Elkhart and South Whitley, Indiana graduating from South Whitley High School. She worked a short period of time after high school at the Blue Bell clothing factory in Columbia City, Indiana. She married and moved to Elkhart and then a farm west of Bristol, Indiana with her family and parents. In 1972 Earl and Doris moved back to Elkhart. She was a homemaker all her life. Doris was deeply religious reading her Bible daily and was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church. She will be missed and warmly remembered by family and friends.

Visitation for Doris will be from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Friday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart and an hour prior to the 11 am service on Saturday at Augustana Lutheran Church, Elkhart. Rev. Steven Reshan will officiate. Interment will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery.
