E. Lucille “Lucy” Gygi, 86 of Elkhart passed away Friday, July 22, 2016 at the Elkhart Hospice House.
She was born August 20, 1929 in Nappanee to George W. and Mabel F. (Johnson) Bollman. She married Lawrence “Larry” Gygi on March 6, 1955 in Wakarusa. He died on March 9, 2004. Surviving are a daughter, Susan Yoder of Elkhart; 4 grandchildren, Michelle (R. Eric) Laurence, Kimberly (Mark) Whitacre, Preston (Brittney) Savill and Brody Yoder and 6 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Ruth (Bill) Hartman of Syracuse, IN and 1 brother, Wilbur Bollman of Frankfort, IN. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Savill, 2 sisters, Violet Shrider and Beulah George and 2 brothers, Harold and Virgil Bollman.
Lucy was a home mission worker for the Brethren Service Commission where she taught school on Mill Mountain in West Virginia. After her marriage, she was a homemaker and the cafeteria manager at Pierre Moran School for 8 years then worked at REAL services for 4 years as a director.
She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church where she had served as a Sunday school teacher, made peanut brittle and was a hostess and greeter. Visitation for Lucy will be from noon until 1 pm on Wednesday, July 27th at Faith United Methodist Church. Services will begin at 1 pm Wednesday with Bishop Frank Beard officiating. Interment will follow at South Union Cemetery, Nappanee.
