Earl F. Stachel, 89, of 3109 E. Bristol Street, Elkhart, died at 6:15 pm June 17, 2009 at his residence.
He was born September 23, 1919 in Lansing, MI to Walter and Louise (Masuch) Stachel. He married Mozette F. Campbell in February of 1988 in Elkhart who survives along with a daughter, Nancy Fairfield of Noblesville, IN, 2 sons, Ronald E. (Marcia) Stachel of Elkhart and Donald E. (Sue) Stachel of Middlebury; 4 step-children, 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, 9 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Martha Whiting of Lansing, MI, Arlene Hummel and Bernice (Lee) Petersen of Houghton Lake, MI, and Marge (Dave) Meerman of Michigan and a brother, Walter (Lois) Stachel of Houghton Lake, MI. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Stachel, a grandson and a step-son.
Mr. Stachel retired in 1979 from General Motors Corp. as chief electrical engineer. He previously had worked at Allis-Chalmers in Milwaukee, Continental Can Co. in Elkhart, and Union-Carbide in Chicago as an electrical engineer. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elk’s Lodge, Eagle’s Lodge, Moose Lodge, Elcona Country Club where he was on the curling team, and the Country Club, Green Valley, AZ. He was an avid golfer. He graduated from Michigan State University with a B.S. in Electrical and Hydraulic Engineering.
Friends may call for 2 hours prior to the 1:30 pm service on Saturday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd. Elkhart. Reverend Jeff Sturgeon of Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery, Bristol.
