Edith Marcele Phelps

ELKHART- Edith M. “Marcele” Phelps, 100 passed away at Greenleaf Health Campus on April 10, 2013.

She was born on December 11, 1912 to Chauncy E. and Olive Dunafin in Wolcottville, Lagrange County, growing up on a farm. She married Raymond Fields, June 29, 1940. He died Sept. 21, 1952. She then married Harold L. Phelps in 1959. He died Dec. 20, 1989.

Marcele is survived by a step-daughter Janet (Jerry) Scoville , grandson Jeffrey L. Scoville of Elkhart and nephews, John Gold of Elkhart, Stephen K. (Jackie) Dunafin of Galien, MI; nieces, Nancy J. (Thomas) Deckard of Vicksburg, MI, Dorothy Daum of Elkhart, Mickey Chandler of Angola, Billie Dohse of Elkhart and many more nieces and nephews. Marcele was preceded in death by a grandson, James L. Scoville, step-son Larry G. Phelps, sister, Clara Berry, brothers, Jerry Dunafin, Max Rice and Charles Dunafin, niece Norma Gold and sister-in-law Helen Dunafin.

She retired from Whitehall Pharmaceutical in 1974 and spent many years in St. Cloud, Fla. before retiring home to Elkhart.

Marcele was deeply loved by family and had many friends. She loved playing card games and dominoes and was an avid reader and a wonderful cook.

Her family wishes to thank Greenleaf Health Campus and Harbor Light Hospice for their wonderful loving care.

Friends may call an hour prior to the 1 pm service on Saturday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home. Reverend John Hogsett will officiate. Burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery.
