Edward F. Hou, 86 of Bristol, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 in his home.
He was born Dec. 28, 1929 to Hou Ting and Huang Jen Ching in Hangzhou, China. He married Rosa C. Ching Yuan on May 25, 1957 in Taiwan. She survives along with 2 sons, Theodore C. (Laura) Hou of Commerce Township, MI and Alexander C. (Melissa) Hou of Falls Church, VA; 2 granddaughters, Amy and Sara and a grandson, Maxwell.
Edward earned his Master’s degree in Science Biochemistry from West Virginia University. He retired as a vice president of China affairs after 25 years from Bayer AG. He was a member of St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church.
Among his many personal and professional accomplishments, he was most proud of establishing Goshen College's China exchange program and the genetics/microbiology lab at Miles Laboratories. He also initiated many of Bayer's China business ventures and personally sponsored many Chinese students to attend college in the United States. He was also the CEO of Foremost Homes, where he built a number of advanced energy efficient homes in Michiana.
Visitation for Edward will be from 10 am to noon on Saturday, Sept. 17th at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart where services will begin at noon. Fr. Jason Freiburger will officiate. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery, Bristol.
Memorials may be given to Heart to Heart Hospice.
