Eldon R. “Ollie” Johnson, 94 of Elkhart, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Greenleaf Health Campus.
He was born Aug. 21, 1923 in Bristol to Roy and Ada (Remington) Johnson. He married Betty Lou DeYoung on Oct. 1, 1949 in Elkhart. Surviving are a son, Doug Johnson and a daughter, Darlene (Dennis) Knoll both of Elkhart; 4 grandchildren, Chad Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, Nikki Malott, and Travas Knoll, 14 great-grandchildren and a sister, Dorothy Hamilton of Elkhart. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Lou on March 5, 2008 and his siblings, Alice Grubb, Isabelle Simpson, Maxine Ross, Toka Canen and Floyd Johnson.
Ollie graduated from Bristol High School and served in the U.S. Army as a medic in World War II. He was awarded 2 bronze stars. He retired as owner and brick layer for over 50 years of Johnson Masonry. He was a life member of the DAV, American Legion and VFW.
The family will receive friends from 3-4 pm Thursday, March 22nd at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home where his service will begin at 4 pm. Rev. Gary Lewis will officiate. Military honors will conclude the service. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at Rice Cemetery at a later date.
