Eleanor C. Gordon

Eleanor (Slinkard Kile) Gordon, 97, of Hubbard Hill Estates, Elkhart, died at 1:05 pm, Saturday, August 15, 2009 at her residence.

She was born October 29, 1911 in Elkhart to George H. and Lena M. Shaw. She married Charles W. Slinkard in 1930. He preceded her in death. She married Cecil T. Kile in 1957. He died in April 1992. She married Edgar H. Gordon in 1994. He died in 1996.

Survivors include a son, Major General (Ret.) John D. (Donna) Slinkard of Fairfield Glade, TN, a daughter-in-law, Margriet J. Slinkard of Indianapolis, IN, 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a stepdaughter, Jacquelyn Madlem of Oregon, and 8 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles W. (Chuck) Slinkard Jr., a daughter Nancy Slinkard Curtis, a sister, Helen Robinson and a great-granddaughter, Katlyn Curtis.

Friends may call from 5-7 pm Wednesday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd. Elkhart and an hour prior to the 1:30 pm Funeral on Thursday in the Chapel of Hubbard Hill Estates, Elkhart. Rev. E. Wayne Speicher and the Rev. Dr. Mark Owen Fenstermacher will officiate. Entombment will follow at Peace Mausoleum, Rice Cemetery.

Mrs. Gordon was once employed at Marshall Fields in Chicago, and was a sales person and department manager at J.C. Penney, a buyer at Ziesel Bros. Department Store, and manager of Newman’s Style Shop all in Elkhart. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1961 where she was a member of Esther Circle and a Bible Class. She has served as a volunteer at Riverview Adult Day Care, on the board of ADEC Mental Health, and the Friend-to-Friend Program. She was also a member of Railroad Pensioners and a former member of Married Women’s Club.
