Eliza Mae Baker, 78 of Elkhart, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016 at Kindred-Southwood in Terre Haute.
She was born Oct. 12, 1938 in Nesbit, MS to Jessie D. and Ella Mae (Curtis) King. She married Rev. Roosevelt Baker Sr. on Jan. 31, 1954 in Nesbit, MS. He died on Jan. 25, 1999. Surviving are 2 sons, Roosevelt Baker Jr. of Mishawaka and Elder Timothy (Linda) Baker of Evansville; 4 daughters, Dorothy Ann (Shelby) Morris of Terre Haute, Ella Louise Lewis of Elkhart, Martha Jean House of Elkhart and Mary Louise Knox of Terre Haute; 18 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren; a brother, John Earl King of Memphis, TN and 2 sisters, Lorene Cole of Memphis, TN and Betty Newsome of Olive Branch, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers and a sister.
Eliza retired as a nursing assistant for various nursing homes and had worked for Ronzone’s Bakery and did house cleaning. With her husband, she founded the Prayer House COGIC in Elkhart and was ordained as an Urban Missionary.
Family and friends may call from noon to 1 pm Wednesday, Dec. 21st at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home where her funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Her son, Pastor Timothy will officiate. Burial will be at Rice Cemetery.
