Elizabeth O. “Betty” Weideman, 95 of Elkhart, passed away Monday, Nov. 10, 2014 at The Maples at Waterford Crossing, Goshen.

She was born Feb. 5, 1919 in Wheatfield, IN to Grover C. and Lulu Fern (Dewey) Stembel. She married Howard Dale Weideman on June 2, 1940 in Elkhart. He survives with 2 daughters, Barbara (David) Mills of Ovid, MI and Nancy (Jack Jr.) Wait of Elkhart; A son, Thomas (Nanci) Weideman of Hoover, AL; a son-in-law, Dennis Jones of Scottsdale, AZ; 11 grandchildren, Jonathon (Lori) Martin, Jami (Robert) Foreback, Lisa Martin Bergroth, Brenton (Jennifer) Jones, Ryan (Vicki) Jones, Cara (Ara) Dombourian, Lynn Weideman, Bradley Weideman, Aaron (Kami) Wait, Andrew (Bethany) Wait and Alex Wait and 14 great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Ann Jones on Feb. 5, 1984 and a brother Oren Stembel on Oct. 1, 1989.

Betty graduated from Elkhart High School in 1936 and Elkhart Business University. She was a secretary for Elkhart Community Schools and then worked for the U.S. Bureau of Census. She was a member of Clark Memorial Church. She was on the Concord School Board for 12 years, President of the PTA, member of Elkhart and South Bend Symphonies, President of Matinee Musical, DAR, Mayflower Society, Order of Eastern Star, Starlight Chapter #181. She was past Grand Electa and Angel in Disguise of the General Grand Chapter, White Shrine of Jerusalem where she was Worthy High Priestess and Secretary, Social Order of the Beauceant as President and Treasurer, and Personal page to the most worthy Grand Patron, David J. Miller of the General Grand Chapter of the World.

Family and friends may visit on Thursday, Nov. 13th from 2-4 pm at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, where services will be at 4 pm. Rev. Mardell Wilson will officiate. An Order of Eastern Star Memorial Service will immediately follow the service.
