Esther R. Redmond, 87, of Elkhart, passed away Friday, May 1, 2020 at Hospice House of Elkhart.
She was born June 22, 1932 in Cincinnati, OH to Nicholas and Catherine (Barre) Koch. She was raised by her mother and the man she considered to be her father Robert “Bob” Marcum. Esther married Robert L. Redmond on January 10, 1952 in Cincinnati, OH. He preceded her in death on November 6, 2006.
Esther graduated from the University of Cincinnati and taught Home Economics for 20 years at Norwood High School where she was also a student parole officer. She had her own cooking segment on a local television program and she would regularly provide lasagna dinners for all shifts of the Anderson Township fire stations. She enjoyed sewing her daughter’s prom dresses, window treatments for family and friends and among other things, Halloween costumes for her grandsons. She was always “bright eyed and bushy tailed” and happiest when surrounded by her family.
Surviving are a daughter Patsy (Bob) Overmyer of Elkhart, a son Reed (Bea) Redmond of Orlando, FL, two grandsons Tyler R. Overmyer and Andrew Marshall Redmond, a half-brother Robert (Cathy) Marcum and a half-sister Sandra (Michael) O’Neale. She also considered as her sons Michael and Garry Shields.
Private visitation will be held Wednesday May 6, 2020 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home.
Esther will be buried next to her beloved husband on Thursday May 7, 2020 in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Cincinnati, OH.
