Evelyn C. Smith

Evelyn C. Smith, 86 of Elkhart, passed away November 14, 2013 at Riverside Village.

She was born July 12, 1927 in North Bergen, NJ to Antonio and Ruth (Hoile) Pettrillo. She married Thomas W. Smith on January 12, 1950 in Hoboken, NJ. He died August 3, 1999. Surviving are a daughter, Theresa Ann Marie Smith of Elkhart, a son, Allan (Cathy) Smith of Niles, MI; 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 sons, Thomas J. Smith and Raymond J. Smith, a grandson, Randy Starr and 11 brothers and 1 sister.

Evelyn graduated with a degree in nursing from Hoboken (NJ) Hospital and provided childcare for Frank Sinatra’s children, Frank Jr. and Nancy in Hoboken. She also made afghans for the Elkhart Police and Fire Departments. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church.

Visitation for Evelyn will be an hour prior to the service at 1 pm Monday, Nov. 18th at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral & Cremation Center. Cremation will follow services with burial in St. Vincent’s Cemetery at a later date.
