Floyd Neal Olinger, 82 of Elkhart passed away April 2, 2012 at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born February 21, 1930 in Elkhart to Hershel N. and Thelma I. (Kimes) Olinger.
He married Karen L. Tucker on April 11, 1963. She survives with children, Cathy (David) Brown of VA, Rene (Tony) Self, Bobbie (Brandon) Harper and Karen Price all of AZ, Marvin (Charlean) Olinger, Kathy (Duane) Olinger and Ray (Sandra) Olinger of AK and Steven (Brooke) Olinger of IN; 28 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Edward (Eleanor) Olinger of IN and Jim (Ann) Dearing of OH and 1 sister, Mary Lou Weldy of IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father Elmer Clayton, children, Deborah Jeffries, Sharon Mabie, Paul Manis and Phyllis Manis and 3 grandchildren.
Floyd graduated from Elkhart High School in 1948 and served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He was in sales, was a musician and a Jack of All Trades. He was an honorary lifetime member of the American Legion Post 33 for 36 years. He was a member of the Lions Club and founder of the Alaska Chapter, of Eagle River MDA. He also supported the V.F.W.
Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 pm at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart where services will be held at 11:30 am Saturday. Reverend Robert G. Schallhorn, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be at Ft. Richardson National Cemetery, Alaska at a later date. Military honors will be rendered at the funeral home at the conclusion of services Saturday.
