Frederick D. “Bud” Long, 85, 1708 North Carolina Ave., Elkhart, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 11:15 pm at Golden Living Center.
He was born September 3, 1924 in Elkhart to Clarence and Pearl (Runyon) Long. On July 1, 1944, he married Lucille Funk in Elkhart who survives, along with 2 sons, Tom (Mary Ann) Long of Jones, Michigan and Terry Long of Elkhart; 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters Dolores Swoape and Rose Hamilton; and a brother Robert Long.
Mr. Long had been employed at Miles Laboratories for 30 years as an electrician. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII, and received a Purple Heart. He was a member of First Baptist Church and deeply loved his family.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, with a funeral service Saturday at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church in Elkhart. Rev. James Pettit of First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be at Rice Cemetery.
